A randomized trial, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, compared full-body narrowband UVB (NB-UVB) exposure three times per week against 1,600 IU of oral vitamin D3 daily over six weeks in vitamin D–deficient adults. UVB phototherapy was significantly more effective at raising vitamin D levels than oral supplementation. The UVB group saw a mean increase of roughly 22.3 ng/mL, compared to about 15 ng/mL in the supplement group.
